These gifts are often called <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 700; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">APEST<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Shepherds, and Teachers.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">These gifts are not about titles or positions. They are ways Jesus helps His body become healthy, strong, united, and mature.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Jesus Himself perfectly lived out all five. He is the Apostle sent by the Father. He is the Prophet who speaks God’s truth. He is the Evangelist who brings good news. He is the Shepherd who cares for His people. He is the Teacher who reveals God’s wisdom.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus shares these gifts with His followers so the church can continue His work in the world. This means every believer has a role to play. No one is unnecessary. No gift is better than another.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 15pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">APEST helps us see that discipleship is about becoming more like Jesus, not just discovering what we are naturally good at. Some gifts may feel familiar to us. Others may stretch us.
