He preached the Kingdom of God. This means God’s active reign breaking into the world.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Kingdom of God is wherever God’s will is done, wherever His authority is welcomed, and wherever His life overcomes sin, sickness, darkness, and evil.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Jesus announced that the Kingdom had come near. This was good news because the King is good. God’s rule is not cruel or selfish. His reign brings mercy, justice, healing, forgiveness, freedom, peace, and life.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">To pray “Your Kingdom come” is to align our lives with God’s restoring rule. It means we are not asking God to bless our own little kingdoms. We are asking Him to reshape us around His Kingdom.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This prayer challenges us because we often want control. We want our plans, comfort, success, and preferences to come first.
