It is real and relational. Through Jesus, we are brought into God’s family and given the right to become children of God.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">That means God does not merely rule over us from far away. He delights in us as His children. He knows us, welcomes us, listens to us, and forms us with love.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This can be hard to believe. Many of us feel more comfortable seeing ourselves as workers, servants, failures, or people who must prove our worth. But the gospel gives us a deeper identity: child of God.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This identity changes prayer. We are not trying to impress God with perfect words. We are coming to our Father, who already knows us and loves us.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">It also changes obedience. Children of God are still called to holiness, faithfulness, and mission. But our obedience flows from love, not fear. We do not obey to earn a place in the family. We obey because we already belong.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Today, receive this truth again: in Christ, you are not an outsider.
