There, humanity was made for communion with Him, relationship with one another, and faithful care for creation. But sin brought rupture, shame, exile, and death.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">In Revelation 21, John sees New Jerusalem coming down from God. This is the fulfillment of what Eden pointed toward: life with God, expanded and restored.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The future is not a return to the past as if nothing ever happened. It is creation brought to its goal. God’s renewed world is expansive, beautiful, and filled with His presence.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">What was lost through sin is restored in Christ. The distance between God and humanity is healed. The separation between heaven and earth is overcome. God’s dwelling is with His people.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This gives us hope because God does not give up on His purposes. What He began in creation, He will complete in new creation.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">It also gives meaning to our lives now.
