We are not slaves to fear. Through Jesus, and by the Spirit, we belong to the Father.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Spirit assures us that we are God’s children. When shame says we are not wanted, the Spirit reminds us that we are adopted. When fear says God is far away, the Spirit teaches us to cry, “Father.” When we feel alone, the Spirit reminds us that we are joined to Christ and held in God’s family.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This identity changes discipleship. We do not obey God to become loved. We obey because we are loved. We do not serve to earn belonging.
