When we pray, “deliver us from the evil one,” we are not praying to a distant God who may or may not care. We are praying to the Father through the Son, who has already given His life for us.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Shepherd’s presence is our greatest defence.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">To pray for deliverance is to trust Jesus’ protection, remain close to His voice, and stay within the safety of the flock. Sheep are safest when they listen to the shepherd and remain near him.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This means we need to pay attention to the voice of Jesus. The enemy often leads through lies, fear, accusation, temptation, and isolation. Jesus leads through truth, peace, correction, mercy, and love.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Staying close to Jesus does not mean life will be free from trouble. It means we are not alone in trouble.
