The problem is not only outside us. But Scripture also asks us to look honestly at our own hearts.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Our hearts can be deceitful. We can excuse what is wrong, protect our pride, blame others, hide from truth, or convince ourselves that our way is best.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Psalm 51 says, “Behold, I was born in iniquity.” This does not mean people are worthless. We are still made in God’s image. But it does mean the fall has affected us deeply.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Our hearts become curved inward - toward self, control, and independence from God. We may want to do good, but we also feel the pull of sin.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This is why we need more than information. We need transformation. We need God to give us clean hearts, renewed minds, and new desires.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 16pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The good news is that God does not abandon us to our bentness.
